So, you know how to improvise. Let two of the SPROUT IDEAS team show you how to refine and develop your skills beyond simple game play allowing you to add to the texture of your scene work. From characters and emotions through to status and environments. We'll show you how to create great improvised scenes.
We'll be looking at:
- Body language and status - what signals are you giving off in social interactions and how to they relate to character work?
- How we can create instant characters
- Building an environment for our characters to inhabit
- How emotions can drive a scene
- Going beyond individual senes to create a simple story structure
We'll also continue to develop spontaneity and creativity, as well as remove the habits that can limit success in impro.
It is suitable for:
-Anyone who has completed a beginners impro course
- Actors & performers
- Improvisers who wish to refresh their existing skills
This course is NOT suitable for complete beginners.
(The group will be limited to a maximum of 16 people.)

Take your long form a stage further. The Maydays specialise in Chicago-style long form improv and in this course the emphasis moves away from predefined games into a more fluid and versatile kind of theatre, often - but not solely - comedic. We teach you techniques to create an hour of theatre from a simple one-word suggestion, a monologue, or a newspaper article. learn the legacy of Del Close and Charna halpern in this exciting course where you will learn to self-edit longer scenes and explore a much wider range of improv possibilities. We offer you the freedom to create your own new forms with the guidance of experienced members of The Maydays who have trained with the best Chicago has to offer. The course ends with a performance.

Description:
This course is open to improvisers who have taken our Beginners course/Foundation Weekend or equivalent. The course aims to take your performance up a level, give you techniques to add more depth and character to your work, and increase your confidence further. We use side-coaching, physical theatre techniques and also styles and techniques developed from our training at iO, Annoyance and Second City improv theatres in Chicago. At the end of the course you will have developed your skills as an improviser, and have improved on the areas you identify at the start as being things to work on.
The course culminates with an optional show, which is open to the public. Almost all Maydays Intermediate Courses result in an establised troupe that goes on to perform together after the course showcase, so if performing is your aspiration, walk this way.
